DMI congratulates student Karolina Novitska, winner of 2006 Adobe Design Achievement Awards in "Live Action" category for her short film "Crossword".
"Crossword" conveys the debilitating experience of Alzheimers disease by combining shards of manipulated digital and analog typography with a haunting soundtrack. Karolina sequenced more than 2,000 still images (mostly black and white) to create the flowing cinematic experience.
The student winners were honored by Adobe and the design community at a special event held on July 20, 2006, at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, Canada.
"Traveling to Toronto for the Adobe Design Achievement Awards was an absolutely amazing and rewarding experience. It was the first opportunity for me to showcase my work on such a large scale. Meeting student designers, animators, photographers, filmmakers from all over the world, networking with design professionals, visiting Toronto design firms, and having a round table discussion with Adobe's software engineers were rewards that reached far beyond the official prizes. At the end of the ceremony the organizers of the event told us – "This is big. It will take some time for you to realize how big".
Karolina has completed her graduate thesis, "forWordPlay: Experiential Learning of a Foreign Language via Interactive Play" and will graduate from DMI in December 2006.
