DMI Professors Organizing AIGA New Media Education Conference

DMI professors Brian Lucid and Joe Quackenbush are organizing an AIGA National Education Conference entitled Design Education in the Age of New Media. Slated for the spring of 2008, the conference will investigate the challenges new media poses to educational programs around the world.

Conference Overview

E-mail. Web sites. Text messaging. Instant messaging. Blogs. Podcasts. New media is newer all the time. How do we prepare design students to communicate in this age of new media? How do we adapt graphic design studies to the new media landscape? How do we create fresh curricula that address the unique communication problems new media poses? What can graphic designers do to influence the future of new media?

"Design Education in the Age of New Media" will gather a diverse group of presenters from around the world to discuss the pedagogical, theoretical, practical, technical, and social challenges new media technology presents to all design educators.
