Background
I was born and grew up in Nishinomiya, Japan. I studied abroad in Perth, Australia in 1996-97. I completed BA in Studio Art major and Mathematics minor at Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley, MA in 2003. My woodcut print, "Untitled", was selected for Arches Second National Student Print Exhibition in 2000, and in 2003, received Ruth E. Warfel Art Prize. I am currently pursuing interactive and experience design at DMI (MFA Design), Massachusetts College of Art, Boston, MA.
I encountered works by Sol Lewitt in my junior year at Mount Holyoke College. Since then, I have been interested in visual forms created based on algorithms and mathematical formulas. I have worked with Fibonacci sequence both in printmaking and graphic design for almost two years. I would like to further pursue this idea of visual forms based on algorithms and mathematical formulas during my study at DMI. Currently, my interest is on "Real world, Mathematical world a Aesthetic world."e;I believe in pursuing "Real world ? Mathematical world" as well as oMathematical world a Aesthetic world," because Aesthetic world can be created by Mathematical world mainly because Mathematical world is closely related to the Real world, and in fact, was born from it.
Currently, I have been researching Voronoi diagram and how it can be generated by our personal space in relation to other people around us. Using this diagram, I would create dynamic patterns of the shift of our personal space over time. I am also really interested in applying geometry to information design and interface design. I believe in this possibility because some information is dynamic as well as geometry.
In 1998, I graduated from Cornell and began working as a new media designer and an instructor in the field of new media. After 10 years, I am still extraordinarily enthusiastic about the field of multimedia; I currently work both as a designer/developer and as an instructor of graphic design, interface design, multimedia and animation.
