Sambadrome

Karatzas, Evan

The assignment was to select a piece of music, analyze the various structures that exist in the existing sound, and develop a visualization based on that existing structure. I chose a short Brazilian piece of music with a relentless, multilayered, multirhythmic percussion. The piece is titled "Sambadrome" by Funk 'n Lata.

My visualization is a combination of manipulated video I shot of an interactive and very tactile sculpture at the Children's Museum in Portsmouth, NH and a series of brief iconic assemblages which build and disappear in a synchronous relationship to the rhythmic patterns of the music. The concurrence of these separate yet connected visual layers has the effect of competing for your attention at times while certain layers seem to disappear and reappear as the sequence progresses.
